New Bibio

April 10, 2011

Bibio, a genre-defying producer from the UK has a new album on Warp Records called “Mind Bokeh”

This song is really fun and it’s called K is for Kelson:

Love this guy.

Ólöf Arnalds

March 23, 2011

Ólöf Arnalds has made her my across my radio a few times, and now I can’t get this song out of my head. She is an Icelandic multi-instrumentalist songwriter. This video was shot in Iceland’s Þingvellir National Park and features song awesome(ly sexy) choreography and contact improv. Oh yeah Björk sneaked some vocals in there somehow too.

Surrender:

Just found this band today and couldn’t wait to post it. They are from Spain and called Triángulo de Amor Bizarro, meaning Bizarre Love Triangle, no doubt a reference to the classic New Order song (you know it even if you don’t recognize the name).

Here are two songs from their 2010 album “Año Santo.” Both great couldn’t decide.

This video for De la Monarquía a la Criptocracia was produced by CANADA, the same production group that did El Guincho’s infamous NSFW Bombay:

La Malicia De Las Especies Protegida (might even like this song better):

People are being too quick to call this mediocre.

EDIT:

Oh BTW…

Beige

February 17, 2011

Sorry. Having trouble finding appealing graphic content for this band, but I think they’re great, so try it out.

This is Beige from Brooklyn. It’s pretty solid, drawn-out, psych-rock as minimal as their album art (below)

Math The Band

February 15, 2011

I have been meaning to make a post about MATH THE BAND for a while now, but this is a good time. Meet Kevin and Justine. They make sweet hyperactive 8-bit music, and just finished this music video:

Also, they are working on a new album and getting ready for a tour with MC Chris in May. So to help raise money for this effort, you can pay Math The Band to give you a $2/minute guitar, synth, or tambourine solo via phone. CLICK HERE FOR THE DETAILS. I highly recommend them.

Finally, I should also mention that Math The Band is a two-time winner of Taco Bell’s Feed the Beat contest which awards touring bands $500 in Taco Bell gift certificates for one year simply on the basis of whether or not they think the band is cool. The winners are asked, but not required to make a video in appreciation. Taco Bell chose not to post Math The Band’s response that our friend Alice and I helped them make:

I’m Torche! Fuck yeah!

February 13, 2011

Torche is awesome, but I kinda wish I was Neurosis or Boris.

Recently, Daytrotter recorded a live set with Matmos. Matmos are an electronic and modern classical duo from San Fransisco who have been active since the the late 90s. They got attention as prominent collaborators with Björk, particularly on “Vespertine” and “Medúlla.”

Daytrotter, which features short informal performances by contemporary musicians produced two improvisational pieces by Matmos, the second of which features Dan Deacon, who is evidently a longtime friend.

Stream or Download the set here! It’s really good!

And just for something else to listen to, here’s a song from their 2004 album, “The Civil War:”

Stagnant Pools

December 13, 2010

Stagnant Pools are two brothers from Bloomington, IN that make hazy, gritty shoegaze post-punk.

You can stream and download their album “Real Lies” for free here or at their bandcamp page.

I’m into it.
